Organic White Basmati Rice

Organic Basmati Rice by Hatton Hill Organic. Organically grown, harvested and dried in India. Packed in the UK.

Basmati rice is a light, delicate variety of rice that originates in the foothills of the Himalayas. It's unique among rice varieties because each grain expands by more than twice its dry length during cooking, growing longer but not thicker, unlike other types of rice, whose width also bulks up when they're cooked.

Our organic white basmati rice is high in carbohydrates and micronutrients such as thiamine, folate and selenium.

Our rice has a wonderfully fluffy texture, making it perfect for pilafs and frying, although if you're planning on using it to top with curry, steaming or boiling it will allow it to soak up the sauce more effectively.

There are dozens of dishes you can make using our organic white basmati rice – from stir-fries to soups to salads, and just about everything in between. Basmati takes stocks and seasonings well without turning mushy, so feel free to spice things up a little with broths and ingredients such as saffron, garam masala, cardamom, cinnamon and coriander, to name just a few.

Basmati rice which has a semi-dull, semi-transparent colour, is among the self-flavoured rice types. In fact, the word basmati means "perfume, perfumed" in Sanskrit. This is the reason why basmati rice, which requires very special conditions in a very special soil even in its homeland, has become a prince.

It is a rare type of rice. For this reason, it has adorned the table of only nobles in Southeast Asia for many years. Due to its low starch content, it cooks grain by grain and enchants with its magnificent aroma while cooking.

Basmati rice resembles jasmine rice, another type of rice, but has a milder flavour. Basmati rice, which has two types, white and brown, is a type of rice with very low figures in terms of glycaemic index. Therefore, it is especially added to diet lists. It is also known as the only type of rice that can grow twice its size when cooked. It also wants plenty of water while cooking. Therefore, it needs more water than the amount of water used when making pilaf with normal rice. Even though it is cooked with plenty of water, it remains grainy after cooking.

Basmati rice is very rich in terms of content and has ideal nutritional values because it grows in soils fed by abundant mineral and vitamin waters flowing from the Himalayas. Our White Basmati Rice is %100 organic and vegan & vegetarian.
