Organic Red Split Lentils

Size :

Organic Red Split Lentils by Hatton Hill Organic. Organically grown, harvested and dried in Turkey. Packed in the UK.

Lentils are the oldest known pulses cultivated by humans, their domestication dating back at least 11,000 years. Originating in central and western Asia, they have been a staple in regional cuisine whose popularity has spread globally – especially on the Indian subcontinent – thanks to their versatility, nutritional value and distinctive taste.

Red lentils have the sweetest, nuttiest taste of all lentils, and require the shortest cooking time. They tend to become slightly mushy when cooked, which makes them perfect for soups and curries, and also for thickening casseroles and stews. Longer cooking will produce a softer, mushier texture, so if you want red lentils to hold their shape and firm bite for salads or side dishes, simply reduce the cooking time.

The nutty taste of our red lentils means they can form the mainstay of many dishes, while also making them welcome in a supporting role in a wide range of culinary creations, from soups, stews, and side dishes to salads, spreads and much else besides. Red lentils take less time to cook than other lentil varieties, which makes them a natural for preparing soups, thickening stews and creating delicious curries and casseroles.

Inspired cooks might want to try red lentil burgers, falafel or fritters, red lentil side dishes (if you’re feeling especially committed, you can marinate your lentils before cooking), lentil croquettes and red lentil dips using complementary flavours such as paprika (smoked or unsmoked), peppers and lemon. Red lentils offer culinary possibilities that are practically endless – so experiment to your heart’s content!
