Organic Quinoa Flakes by Hatton Hill Organic. Made from quinoa organically grown, harvested and dried in Peru. Packed in the UK.

Quinoa is a grain that was first cultivated at least 5,000 years ago in South America, where it was a staple food of the ancient Incas. In the Quechua language of the Andes, it's known as chisiya mama (mother grain).

Quinoa is hugely popular among vegetarians and vegans, but in recent years has burst into the mainstream as a superfood for all with a powerful nutritional profile. It's a great source of fibre, and of minerals including manganese, phosphorus, copper, folate, iron, magnesium and zinc. It's also a complete protein, containing contains all nine essential amino acids that the body cannot produce on its own.

Our quinoa flakes are basically pressed quinoa, rolled flat to make flakes in the same way as oat groats are rolled to make rolled oats. The flatness of quinoa flakes means they have a similar texture to that of of rolled oats, and they're very quick to cook, making them an excellent choice for breakfast porridge.

But why stop there? Because they're smaller in diameter than rolled oats, they can be incorporated incredibly easily into baking, and they don't stand out as much as oats. Try whipping up a batch of quinoa flake brownies or other cookies for a treat that's also a protein boost. If you're looking to incorporate them into savoury dishes, you can start by using them as a substitute for breadcrumbs to coat chicken, fish and vegetables.
