Organic Cacao Butter Drops by Hatton Hill Organic. Made from raw cacao butter from cacao pods organically grown in Peru. Packed in the UK.
Cacao butter is an entirely natural fat that's pressed from cacao beans in a way that's similar to how olive oil is extracted from olives. It's a pure, natural fat that's free of both gluten and sugar, and suitable for a vegan diet. Cacao butter is solid at room temperature but has a melting point that's close to the temperature of the human body – a distinctive characteristic that gives foods in which it's an ingredient that special melt-in-your-mouth quality.
Our organic cacao butter drops are, of course, an essential ingredient in homemade chocolate, and one of the healthiest fats around, but, like most fats and oils, cacao butter plays a supporting role in the culinary preparations in which it's used rather than stealing the show, adding creamy mouthfeel and smoothness. That makes it a wonderful ingredient in cakes (use it instead of dairy butter), bliss balls, tarts, homemade ice-cream (don't be afraid to experiment!), smoothies, hot drinks (try cacao butter lattes and hot chocolate and you'll never go back to ordinary milk!) and pretty much anything to which you want to add an entirely plant-based creamy touch.
It may surprise some of you to learn that this terrific ingredient can also be used as an oil in savoury dishes, where just a little will go a long way to replace fats and oils such as butter and sunflower oil. One of its unique advantages is that it has a high smoke point, allowing it to be used at much hotter temperatures than other oils, which typically burn at around 200°C. In savoury cooking, our organic cacao butter drops pair well with basil, peppercorns, green peas, roasted cauliflower, curry dishes and flaky fish dishes.
And, of course, cacao butter isn't just a dazzling food ingredient – it's also used widely in skincare and cosmetic products, so you can say no to the nasties in commercially produced skin treatments and concoct your own natural body butter, moisturisers and treatments for sunburn, chapped lips, scar tissue and stretch marks.
