Bird's eye chillies are common in Indian and Southeast Asian cuisine, and are quite hot, measuring 50,000-100,000 units on the Scoville heat scale. By comparison, the mild green jalapeño chillies dished up in Mexican restaurants typically rate around 5,000-8,000 heat units.
The heat and intense colour of our organic bird's eye chillies make them a great choice for whipping up hot sauces, chilli pastes and salsas. To make them into spicy flakes or powder, pop them in a blender and blitz them to your desired consistency. They're also terrific when added whole to stir-fries, giving them a lovely warmth (and if you bite into them, a dose of heat treatment!) and for adding to soups. Our organic bird's eye chillies are some of the most versatile peppers around, thanks in large measure to the fact their heat can be easily controlled depending upon how you prepare them.
