White rice flour is an enormously versatile ingredient that's used around the world, yet which still has many people in Western countries a little puzzled over how to use it. It's a great, gluten-free substitute for wheat flours in many applications (although not so much in certain breads, as its lack of gluten doesn't bind things together in the way that wheat flour does). Because it's made simply from ground rice, it has the same nutritional profile, being low in salt but rich in healthy, carbohydrates.

Try using our organic white rice flour in cakes, biscuits, certain kinds of breads (such as banana bread and flatbreads – get your Southeast Asian street food vibe on with Vietnamese bánh xéo crêpes, or try whipping up some rice flour tortillas), pancakes, waffles, muffins and more.

Rice flour is the mainstay ingredient in delicious sweet-treat Japanese dessert mochi (a kind of rice cake) and in many kinds of dumplings found around Asia, too. It's an excellent thickener for stews, soups and sauces, it's indispensable for making tempura (and makes excellent batters for closer-to-home favourites such as fish and chips), it's a terrific coating for roasted meats, fish and vegetables, and it's even a great way to make gnocchi that's completely gluten-free!
